St. Catherine's Cadets Go Pink to Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

St. Catherine's Cadets Go Pink to Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

St. Catherine’s Academy (SCA), an all-boys Catholic School with a military tradition in Anaheim, CA, will be showing their support for breast
cancer and all cancers during the month of October. Students and staff will be wearing pink wristbands that say “Pray for a Cure” to help bring awareness to breast cancer and all cancers, one of this nation’s leading causes of death.  In addition, SCA will host a special football game to honor everyone who has been affected by cancer.  The game will take place on Thursday, October 20, 2016, from 3:30pm to 5:00 pm at their Anaheim campus.

St. Catherine’s Academy’s varsity football team and their coaches will proudly wear pink socks during every game in October.  Additionally, during the game dedicated to cancer survivors on October 20th, all women, including some being cancer survivors themselves, will be honored with a special ceremony in which they will receive a rose and a special prayer for their bravery and for taking charge of their health.

SCA students will also be hosting a fundraiser for pink wristbands to help increase awareness for cancer and help raise money for cancer programs and research.  Funds raised will be donated to a local non-profit. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the U.S and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women; it is estimated to take over 40,000 lives just this year. Statistics have shown that one in eight women are affected by breast cancer, and rates begin to increase in women after the age of 40. Globally, breast cancer now represents one in four of all cancers in women.

Showing support and honoring women this month is extremely important for SCA.   For more information regarding SCA, please visit  www.stcatherinesacademy.org or call (714) 772-1363.

St. Catherine’s Academy, founded in 1889 by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, is an independent Catholic school with a military tradition for boys in Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade.  The school offers both day and resident programs.
