SCA Receives Honorable Mention from AMSCUS!

As one of the only K-8 schools in the country with a military tradition, St. Catherine’s Academy’s drill team was honorably mentioned at the Association of Military Colleges & Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) conference held annually in Washington, D.C.

Colonel Barry Bizzell, Commandant of St. Catherine’s Academy, attended the conference and, on behalf of SCA, proudly received the honors given by the voting body of AMCSUS.  During the national conference, St. Catherine’s received special recognition for its exemplary drill team performance whose make-up includes 4th through 8th grade cadets and whose competition was nearly all the college prep high schools in the country.

“We are extremely proud of our cadets for their abilities, professionalism and dedication to our Academy’s military tradition,” said Colonel Bizzell.  “It was an honor to compete against so many well-known military high schools throughout the country.”  The annual conference at AMSCUS brought together more than 150 attendees which included Presidents, Deans, Superintendents, Commandants, and other senior leadership from our nation’s military colleges and high schools.

St. Catherine’s Academy (SCA), is an all-boys Catholic school with a military tradition for students from transitional kindergarten through 8th grade. Celebrating 127 years, SCA is the oldest school in Orange County and is the only school of this type in the United States. The key components of St. Catherine’s programs are: challenging academics focused on the specific learning needs of boys and young men, spiritual development under the nurturing care of the Dominican Sisters, and a structured military program that builds confidence and develops life-long leadership skills.

St. Catherine’s Academy was founded in 1889 by Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose; it is an independent Catholic School with a military tradition for boys. The school offers both day and boarding opportunities.  For more information about this occasion or about St. Catherine’s Academy, please call (714)772-1363 or visit:
