Approximately 170 cadets from St. Catherine’s Academy (SCA) in grades transitional kindergarten through 8th grade will pay special tribute to Orange County Police and Fire Departments on Friday, February 3, 2017 in honor of Civil Servants’ Recognition Day. On this day, dozens of police and firefighters from local departments will visit the academy located at 215 N. Harbor Blvd., Anaheim, CA 92805 from 11:30 am to 2:00pm. They will be welcomed with a special ceremony and blessing, enjoy a delicious barbecued rib lunch and share their fire and police equipment and vehicles with SCA’s students.
The day will start with a Mass in the school’s chapel and will be dedicated to the Orange County servicemen serving Anaheim, Brea, Placentia, and other surrounding cities. There will be a bagpipes performance during the special ceremony and blessing for everyone in attendance.
The servicemen will have lunch with SCA students followed by displays of police cars, K-9 units, mounted unit horses, and fire trucks. Equipment and gear will be on display at the school’s 9-acre campus. There will also be exciting demonstrations of SWAT vehicles, uniforms and gear on display for the students.
“This annual tradition of St. Catherine’s allows the cadets to thank police officers, firefighters, city officials, and other civil servants for their service to the community,” said Sister Johnellen Turner, OP, Principal and Administrator of SCA. “It is our pleasure to honor Anaheim’s service men and women and we are so proud to be part of the wonderful city for almost 128 years.”
SCA’s school-wide formation program complements its military tradition and encourages strong character traits such as discipline, honor and respect so that students can become caring citizens, honorable leaders, and kind human beings. “This event is well received at our school and fits right in with our mission,” said Colonel Bizzell, head of SCA’s military program. “We are proud to host this event year after year and we find that it is a great learning experience for our cadets.”
