Unique Among Military Middle Schools
St. Catherine's Academy
SCA's unique format as a Catholic school with a military tradition creates the ideal backdrop for middle school boys to grow into confident, responsible young men. Our middle school program includes students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.
Here are just a few reasons why St. Catherine’s Academy is one of a kind, even among other military middle schools:
- SCA serves students in transitional kindergarten – 8th grade only. This means that our middle school students are the oldest cadets on campus. They have opportunities and responsibilities that are reserved for older students at traditional military schools.
- SCA’s military tradition is age appropriate. Our military middle school program is based on more than 125 years of experience working with this age group. We are not trying to force middle school students into a program designed for high school students.
- SCA provides a head start. Confidence, leadership, responsibility – these are just a few of the values and virtues of our military tradition. With these skills in tow, your son will have a distinct advantage as he enters high school.
- As a Catholic school with a military tradition, SCA offers something more. At SCA, your son will develop confidence and self-discipline through our military tradition, but he will also receive outstanding instruction in the classroom, grow in his faith guided by our Dominican charism, and participate in athletics, arts, and community service to become the kind of well-rounded leader our future needs.

A Well-Rounded Approach
St. Catherine's Academy provides the structure and leadership learning you expect from military middle schools. But that is just one aspect of our well-rounded program. As a Catholic school with a military tradition, we also offer outstanding academics, spiritual development, and a range of extracurricular activities.
Academics at SCA are characterized by small classes and individualized attention. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 8-to-1 and an average class size of 15, your son will receive the personal attention he needs to succeed and reach his potential. SCA also offers a variety of individualized options for advanced students and for those who need extra support.
Our all-boys environment allows teachers to tailor their lesson plans to the learning styles and interests of our students. This takes on a variety of forms, such as hands-on learning experiences, literature topics that grab the attention of boys, and an emphasis on study and organizational skills.
Dominican Formation Program
St. Catherine's Academy is rooted in a school-wide Dominican formation program that emphasizes community, ministry (service), study, and prayer. These Dominican Pillars form the foundation for a faith-filled community where students of all religious traditions are able to grow in their personal spirituality. In addition to daily prayer, weekly Mass, and classroom religious instruction, students find that faith applies to all aspects of life.
Boarding School Program
Boarding options are available for students in our military middle school program. Our boarding program is designed especially for younger students. This means 24-hour supervision, lots of planned activities, and plenty of support as students live away from home for the first time.
But resident students must also take on more responsibility than in the home environment. This leads to rapid growth in maturity and self-confidence. Dorm life also provides opportunities for leadership as middle school cadets are responsible for maintaining order and managing chores in the dorms.
We offer two boarding programs. In our 5-day boarding program, students stay on campus from Sunday evening through Friday afternoon and return home on the weekends to spend valuable, quality time with family. In our 7-day boarding program, students stay on campus throughout the year except for the winter, spring, and summer breaks. On weekends they participate in field trips and on-campus activities.
