Individualized Learning

Individualized Learning

St. Catherine's Academy recognizes that our students come with a variety of learning styles and needs.

We offer learning support services, after-school study hall, and advanced courses for gifted students. With an average class size of 13, teachers have the ability to differentiate lessons to meet the needs of all learners. No matter what your son's level, he will be given the individual attention he deserves so he can reach his full potential.

MSJ Learning Support Center

The MSJ Learning Support Center serves those with learning needs and students who are working below grade level. Our caring and experienced teachers work with students one-on-one or in small groups to help them catch up, complete the curriculum, learn the skills necessary for high school, and gain confidence. The MSJ Learning Support Center ensures each child's growth through a variety of educational resources and tools.

Advanced Classes

At the recommendation of their classroom teacher, advanced students may take specific subjects with a higher grade level. In math, advanced students study algebra as 8th graders and can also opt to take geometry as a zero period (before school). Many local high schools offer credit for these courses if students pass a proficiency exam.

Study Hall

SCA offers two study halls per day. An optional study hall is available from 4:00pm-5:00pm in addition to mandatory study hall from 6:00pm-8:00pm for boarding students. Study hall is staffed by our military personnel and college students who help students maintain focus and provide assistance when needed.

Differentiated Instruction

Differentiated instruction is practiced in each classroom. Utilizing a variety of strategies and tools, teachers create lessons that reach and challenge all students. Small class sizes allow teachers to understand the needs of each student and enhance his individual gifts.
